Big Red Sports Network Profile: Samuel Xie ‘24

By Ian Lee ‘24

Big Red Sports Network Reporter Ian Lee ‘24 recently caught up with boys’ varsity swimming and diving member Samuel Xie ‘24 to learn more about the swimmer and his goals for the season.

Ian Lee: How long have you been swimming? How long for Lawrenceville?

Samuel Xie: I’ve been swimming for around eight years and I’ve swam for Lawrenceville since my freshman year.

IL: What events do you compete in, and what is your main event?

SX: At school, I compete in the 100-meter fly and 200-meter individual medley and I’d say my best event is the 100-meter fly. Outside of school, my best event is the 200-meter fly, but they don’t have that in school.

IL: What is the team dynamic like this year?

SX: It’s great. The captains do a really good job keeping the team together and well integrated. Everyone supports each other during their races!

IL: What goals do you have for yourself and the team overall?

SX: For myself, I want to make Easterns this year. That’s the biggest meet of the season. For the whole team, a huge goal is to give the most swimmers a chance to swim.

IL: What’s been a highlight of the season so far?

SX: Definitely our meet at Pennington because we destroyed them [125-48]. I also felt that our recent meet against Germantown was very fun, even though we got destroyed [75-108 before bouncing back to win 122-47 against St. Benedicts Prep]. It was nice to have some really fast competition.
