Fifth Formers Paige Gillen, Marcia Ojo, Sunjay Riener, and Spencer Lee have been selected to the Glenn “Mooch” Myernick senior soccer boys’ and girls’ all-star teams. Mercer County, N.J.’s top senior players are chosen each fall to compete in the “Mooch Senior Games,” coached and refereed by members of the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame, which sponsors the event. The Games won’t be played this year due to the pandemic, but game organizers still wanted to recognize these young all-stars.
The games honor Myernick, a Mercer County native, who won the Herman Trophy in 1976 as the year’s most outstanding collegiate player while competing as a midfielder for Hartwick College. As a professional athlete, played eight seasons in the North American Soccer League and one in the Major Indoor Soccer League. After retiring, Myernick coached college, professional, and U.S. national soccer teams for more than two decades. He was elected to the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2015.
