Boys’ Ice Hockey Triumphs at HRM Tournament

Make room in the trophy case – boys’ ice hockey has another golden addition! Big Red swept through the 2020 Harry Rulon-Miller Tournament (HRMT) last weekend at Princeton Day School.

The boys began the tournament with a Saturday nail biter, edging the Hoosac School in an overtime shootout. Mike Rocco ’20 scored Big Red’s solo regulation goal and Marcus Sang ‘21 netted the OT goal. Goalie TJ Semptimphelter had 31 saves for Lawrenceville, including three in overtime. Big Red iced the Albany Academy for Boys in the Sunday final in another close game, 5-4. Semptimphelter stopped 24 Albany shots in net. Alessio Raso '21 was awarded the HRMT Christopher Reeves Sportsmanship award.

“After a long break away from each other, it was great to see the resiliency within the group. We came back from multiple deficits in the championship and [Assistant Coach] Sunho [Park] and I could not be more proud,” said head varsity boys’ ice hockey coach Keith Dupee. “In the end, I think the boys trusted each other and understood we needed everyone on the bench to do their job in order to win the tournament.”

Dupee offered a “special shoutout” to Fifth Formers Lach Getz, Kaz Matsuo, TJ Semptimphelter, Trey Croddick, Matt Manahan, Jason Wang, Mike Rocco, and Tait Mott. “They all played/supported the group throughout the weekend, and it was great to see them lead the group and win a trophy during their time here at Lawrenceville,” the coach said.
