Harvard’s Marc Mangiacotti Shares Best Practices with Big Red Track Coaches

On Tuesday February 2, Lawrenceville’s track and field coaching staff had a chance to sit down with Harvard Coach Marc Mangiacotti on a Zoom call to discuss the principles behind the 400-meter race. Mangiacotti is in his ninth year as an assistant coach with Harvard, overseeing the men’s sprinters and hurdles for the Crimson. Prior to Harvard, Mangiacotti coached at Brown University.

On the call for Lawrenceville were Erik Chaput (director of the Big Red track and field program), Erin Chiaravalloti (assistant girls’ winter track coach), Brian Hill (assistant boys’ and girls’ indoor and outdoor coach), Jeff Streeter (head boy’s outdoor track coach), Jessica Pine (assistant girls’ spring track coach), and Stephen Wallis (head boys’ indoor track coach).

Mangiacotti's detailed, hour-long presentation covered how to design programs for different types of athletes, along with race strategies. The Lawrenceville School coaching staff will be implementing what they learned from Mangiacotti when student-athletes return in the spring.
