Olympian Stephanie Reilly Shares Expertise with Big Red

Allison Haworth ‘22

Coach and Olympian Stephanie Reilly of Providence College shared her path to success, words of inspiration, and meaningful advice with Lawrenceville’s track and field squad, officially kicking off the team’s virtual training for 2021. Reilly met with Lawrenceville student-athletes via Zoom on Jan. 12.

Reilly is a graduate of and a current coach for the women’s track and field and cross country teams at Providence College in Rhode Island. Reilly shared her story of living in, and eventually competing for, Ireland in the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

She shared words of reflection on her journey from being a talented runner in high school, an accomplished college distance runner, and later a standout in international competition. Reilly also encouraged Lawrentians to embrace feeling uncomfortable and to have a positive outlook despite setbacks in both their running and their everyday lives.  Lastly, she advised Lawrentians to continue working hard at everything they do, as the training and preparation that they do each day at practice will help them become stronger, both mentally and physically.

Although Lawrentians need to train with their teams virtually this winter term, Reilly’s words of inspiration, opportunity, and hope will reinforce and build upon the values instilled by Lawrenceville’s Big Red athletics and track and field programs. As Reilly shared, “you’ll never know what you can do if you don’t try.”
